The
concert room at the end of the dining hall came about after
the restaurant was founded, as a consequence of the possibilities
offered by an under utilised space.
From
the beginning, high quality flamenco has been programmed,
aimed at the demands of a knowledgeable local audience with
close ties to the world of flamenco. These two factors, good
programming and a demanding audience, have allowed Casa Patas
to develop its image of quality and prestige.
The
Tablao-Tavern-Restaurant Casa Patas was founded in 1984 in
the popular neighbourhood of Lavapiés,
which is without doubt the nucleus of the flamenco world in
the city of Madrid. Important flamenco families have been
born and bred in this neighbourhood for more than 150 years.
Little by little, Casa Patas has made a place for itself in
flamenco and is now recognised as a reference point for the
art on a world level.
For
years the name of Casa Patas has appeared in the best tourist
guides to Spain, recognised as the most authentic flamenco
venue in the city. Despite the fact that Casa Patas has never
aimed to attract tourists, it has never denied them the opportunity
of getting close to flamenco in its purest state. As a consequence,
it is always possible to find demanding tourists at Casa Patas
tablao who wish to know the essence of this unique art, beyond
the stereotype.
Both
newcomers and renowned figures of flamenco have appeared on
the stage of Casa Patas making its evenings unforgettable
experiences.
Its
walls are lined with pictures and photos of those artists
and personalities who have passed through the restaurant or
tablao, such artists as: Antonio Canales, Enrique Morente,
José Mercé, Carmen Linares, Remedios Amaya,
Niña Pastori, Sara Baras and even Camarón de
la Isla himself.
Critics
in specialised press have frequently praised the programming
and Casa Patas has appeared many times in reports on flamenco
in foreign publications.
As
well as programming dance, flamenco song and guitar performances,
the Casa Patas concert hall is the venue for prize giving
in the world of flamenco and bullfighting, presentation of
new recordings and books, photography exhibitions and many
other events, and is also the preferred venue for many artists
and journalists to conduct interviews.
Casa
Patas’ large dining room, with its wrought iron pillars
and Corinthian capitals, transports its clients to the world
of flamenco while they enjoy the most traditional dishes and
products of Spanish gastronomy.
Performances
are held on Monday thru Saturday, with two performances on
Fridays and Saturdays.
From
Monday to Thursday, the single performances begin at 22.30
and Fridays and Saturdays the first performance is at 21.00
and the second at 24.00 hours.
Flamenco
Conservatory Foundation "Casa Patas"
In
the year 2000 the Flamenco Conservatory
Foundation was created with the aim of becoming a centre
where all activities related to flamenco are united: teaching,
broadcasting, research and promotion of flamenco song, flamenco
guitar and flamenco dance, that is, flamenco in all its dimensions.
