Jhony
Cortés,
is a flamenco singer from Granada who was born in Santa Fé.
He began working at the early age of 16 in the flamenco tablao
Reina Mora, and later on in the most prestigious of Granada’s
tablaos such as Los Tarantos and Corral del Príncipe
etc.
He
arrived in Madrid at the end of 1999 and began working with
such important companies as:
Manolete
El Güito
Merche Esmeralda
Rafael Amargo Juan Andrés Maya
Manuel Reyes
Antonio Reyes Suroma
Nuevo Ballet Español, etc.
He
was a member of Manolete’s
company during three years, from 2000- 20002, performing in
a variety of productions such as “Flamenco Soy”
and “Mi Camino”, and during the Bienal of Seville.
He has performed in a multitude of theatres such as Teatro
Lope de Vega ,Teatro Central de Sevilla, Teatro Villamarte
de Jerez, Teatro Roman de Mérida, Teatro Isabel la
Católica de Granada, Festival de Ceuta Villa de Barcelona,
Festival de Puebla de Cazalla. He has also toured the world
passing through cities such as Miami, Hamburg, Berlin and
Frankfurt as well as Poland and Japan etc.
He
worked with Rafael
Amargo’s company for three
years during which time he appeared at the Bellas Arts theatre
in Madrid (with “Amargo”), the Villamarta in Jerez,
Javelins in Gijón etc. The production “Amargo”
toured the whole of Spain and was awarded the MAX prize for
best company, it also toured the world.
With
El
Güito’s company he
participated in the Bienal of Seville and the Lope de Vega
theatre, the Villamarta in Jerez and even debut in London’s
Queen Elizabeth Hall.
As
a member of Manuel
Reyes company
he undertook a tour of Japan with the production “Colores”,
also travelling to Paris where he performed at the café
de la Dance and in Madrid’s Infanta Isabel theatre.
He travelled to Italy with Antonio Reyes company where he
presented “El Amor Brujo in the Festival of Salerno.
He
returned to Tokyo as a member of Juan
Andrés Maya’s company with whom he also presented
“MAYA” in the Colegio de Médicos in Madrid,
the Isabel la Católica theatre in Granada, the Lope
de Vega in Seville, Alhambra theatre in Granada and Madrid’s
Casa Patas, etc.
In
Madrid he performed several works with different companies,
collaborating in various shows.
He recorded a track for the Brazilian singer Roberto
Carlos for “Flamencando”
by Xavier Ribeiro.
He travelled to New York where he participated in the Flamenco
USA festival
He
took part in the “Jovenes Flamencos” recording
produced by El Negri.
Worked with the Ballet Nacional de España in their
March 2003 production at Madrid’s Teatro Real.
