Mari Paz Lucena
Flamenco Dancer "Bailaora"

Began studying dance at the age of seven, choosing the flamenco speciality when she was 12 years old and making her professional debut at the age of 14 with Mariquilla in the work “El Sacromonte y Yo” which was broadcast on several TV stations.


At the age of 15 she starred in the musical film
“A Thousand And One Nights”, shot in Granada. From the time of the shoot, an exhibition hall was dedicated to the film while the participants danced live on stage.


From that moment, she worked in Flamenco Peñas and Festivals in Andalucia with her group. At the age of 17 she moved to Seville to join the
Mario Maya company, taking the leading role during a tour of several countries in the works “El Almagro, “Tres Movimientos Flamencos” and “El Amor Brujo”.


She moved to Madrid and joined the companies of :

“El Güito” making her debut at the Calderón Theatre in Madrid.
Manolete, making her debut at the Teatro de la Villa, Madrid.


She performed at various theatres in Spain and around the world with the following companies :


- XI Bienal of Flamenco in Seville with
Manolete and El Güito’s companies
- Soloist with Manolete’s company at the Reina Victoria Theatre in Granada
- Villamarta Theatre of Jerez with Manolete’s company
- Villamarta Theatre of Jerez with El Güito’s company
- Flamenco Tablao Casa Patas, with her own group
- Festival “Los Veranos de la Villa” in Madrid
- Isabel La Católica Theatre in Granada
- Grand Theatre of Córdoba
- London’s Royal Festival Hall with “Arte Flamenco” and El Güito’s company
- The Caves at Nerja, Málaga
- As soloist in Manolete’s company’s work “Mi Camino” at the Isabel La Católica Theatre, Granada
- Festival de Cante y Baile of la Puebla de Cazalla
- The Villamarta Theatre in Jerez
- The Chatelet Theatre in Paris
- The Grand Theatres of Mexico, Athens, etc.
- Soloist in
Juan Andrés Maya’s production of “Arte Flamenco” at London’s Royal Festival Hall
- With her group at the Second Display of Young Talent in Flamenco Dance in Granada (Corral de Carbon)


In 2001 she travelled to
Osaka, Japan with her group and taught in Osaka and Nagoya
She returned to Madrid to work in the Alfil theatre for a month.
She took part in the Mont de Marsans Festival in France, along with El Güito.
Participated in the tour of villages of the Madrid Community as a soloist with El Güito

In 2003 she performed before the king and queen of Spain at the Casa Patas tablao in Madrid, with Miguel Téllez in the work “Puro Gayardó”

She began teaching at the Cátedra de Flamencología in Granada in Mariquilla’s academy.
Following this, at El Carmen de Las Cuevas in Granada.
She has given intensive courses in Nice, New York, Berlin and in Japan.
Currently she combines her performances with teaching at the Conservatory Foundation of Casa Patas, where she has been for three years.


She studied with Mariquilla, Maite Galán, Manolo Marín, Ciro, Mario Maya, “El Güito”, Manolete and Belén Maya.
