This
young cantaora was born in the city of Toledo and although
she does not come from a family dedicated to el cante, she
showed musical talent from an early age with lessons in music
theory and piano.
She
has a powerful voice and great possibilities for a future
career and has received numerous prizes, among them the 1st
prize 'de compás' in Mairena del Alcor, Seville; newcomer's
prize in the Cante de Las Minas
(La Union); 4th prize in the bienal of Cádiz; 1st prize
for saetas in Utrera (Sevilla); 1st prize for under 25 year
olds in Carmona (Seville); and 1st prize for under 25's in
Osuna (Seville).
María de Toledo has the freshness of her 19 years of
age and is not only knowledgeable and interprets almost all
of the flamenco styles, but also continues her professional
career while studying law.
