Rafael
Moreno was born in Cordoba on 28 May of 1964. Since
early age he discovered his gift for music. During his adolescence
he accompanied pop singers playing bass, Manuel Ruiz "Queco",
musician and producer from Cordoba among others. He joined
the group “Tocamadera”, with which he recorded
two discs in London, made concert tours in Spain and performed
in several TV programs such as “Tocata” (Famous
pop music program), Jesus Hermida´s program, etc. He
founded and conducted the cornet and drums marching band of
“Nuestro Padre Jesus de la Sangre” in Cordoba.
He recorded the disc called “Alegria” along with
the choir of the brotherhood “Nuestro Señor Resucitado
y Nuestra Señora de la Alegria” working with
“Pasarela” record company, composing most of its
“sevillanas” (andalusian folk songs).
He carried out his musical studies at the Cordoba Higher Conservatory
of Music , where besides classic guitar, he studied flamenco
with Professor Manuel Cano. Finally he finished his classic
guitar studies at Granada, with excellent marks, obtaining
the title of music lecturer. He teaches since 1991 and became
titular teacher in 1993. Nowadays he is Professor at the Cordoba
Higher Conservatory of Music.
He has improved his knowledge of guitar attending numerous
courses by great musicians of the stature of David Russel
(Classic), Manuel Barrueco (Classic), Jose Tomas (Classic),
Leo Brouwer (Orchestra Composer and conductor), Manolo
Sanlúcar (Flamenco), Phillip Catherine (Jazz),
etc. In addition, he attended courses on composition and improvisation
technique, and took part in etnomusicology workshops and permanent
research seminars.
He has collaborated on the recording and flamenco arrangements
for the soundtrack from the Goya award-winning film “Pasodoble”,
a Carmelo Bernaola composition, and also collaborated with
the Andalusian Film Archive as a live music accompanist for
old silent films.
He accompanied Jose Antonio Rodriguez
( Flamenco compositior and guitar player) as bass player,
the “International Festival of Viña del Mar”
(Chile) and the “Expo´92” (Sevilla) performances
should be emphasized. He has collaborated with several orchestras,
“Ciudad de Cordoba” orchestra among others. Together
with Maria Valverde, researcher and Al-Andalus stage’s
music performer, he composed andperformed on the guitar the
music for the CD recreating a poem bookcalled “The pigeon´s
necklace” (994-1063), first released in Madrid and recorded
by RTVE (Spanish State Broadcast Company). He has offered
numerous concerts of sephardic and hebrew chants all over
the spanish geography and Morocco, at universities, culture
classroms and during the open-door conferences “Discovering
the jewish culture in Europe”. He has registered ten
works as a transcriber and thirty as a composer.
