Born
into a family of professional musicians (pianist-father and
violinist-grandfather), when he began to study music, he was
initially self-taught.
During
these years he plays all over Spain with groups of Jazz and
Latin-Jazz, as well as Flamenco, Tango-dance etc. In 1994
he moves to Madrid to perform with “Losada´s”,
the Losada family´s group, with whom he mainly acquires
his particular sense of flamenco rhythm (compás).
In the course of these years he participates in many Jazz
groups and “Cuadros Flamencos” in Jazz clubs in
Madrid as well as in the rest of Spain, and in festivals in
Spain and Portugal.
Subsequently
he decides to abandon the “worldly noise” (of
Jazz clubs and Flamenco) and applies for classes with the
composer Teresa Catalán, who encourages him to study
at the Superior Conservatory of Aragón, where he graduates
and obtains the superior degrees with the highest grades in
Composition, Pedagogy, Notation and Musical Theory.
With his first major work he wins an international award for
composition, which encourages him to pursue this path.
Since then he has been combining his activity as a composer
within ‘cultured’ music with more than 20 pieces
for chamber ensembles and small orchestras with his Jazz quartet,
recording “Punto de fuga”
and obtaining the best reviews, and occasionally participating
in Flamenco performances with guitarist Jorge Berges; he composes
music for videos, does the arrangements of Astor Piazzola´s
work for pianist Ilan Rogoff, etc.
In 2004 he is honored with the 7th “Virgen
de la Almudena” musical composition award, given
by Union Fenosa and the Madrid city Council.
At the moment he teaches as professor of analysis and harmony
at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Aragón.
