Suroma
is made up of three young dancers, three distinct personalities,
three unique ways of feeling this art which are displayed
in each of the solo numbers, resulting in a unique spectacle
filled with flexibility, strength and rhythmic synchronicity.
Sense and sensibility unite perfectly in each member of Suroma,
who seek simplicity without precluding the vanguard.
Susana,
Rosana and Mara
got to know each other while working in the well known bailaor
Antonio
Canales’ company. Soon,
and parallel to their work with him, they formed “Suroma”,
their own group. Since then they have been booked in theatres,
tablaos ... and their own productions.
Casa Patas, Madrid’s emblematic
flamenco venue, welcomed their first show in 1999. From there
came numerous contracts, such as their collaboration with
the famous German composer, Stockhaussen.
That
same summer Suroma participated in the “Cumbre Flamenca”
under the directorship of Tito Losada in Madrid’s Bellas
Artes theatre. Later on in December, they premiered their
work “A
Tres” in Barcelona’s
Centre Miquel Martí i Pol auditorium.
In July of 2000, again under the directorship of Tito Losada
and alongside Juan Andrés Maya and Lole Montoya, they
formed part of the line-up of “De Casablanca A Madrid”
in the Alcázar theatre. Artists such as Potito, Echegaray
Street Band, Pepe Luis Carmona (of the Habichuela family),
Montse Cortés and Diego
"El Cigala" (highly
respected representatives of today’s modern flamenco)
have been Suroma’s companions on stage and throughout
their professional career.
